February is National Children’s Dental Health Month

Good dental care is essential to good health for everyone, but more so for children as their teeth develop. The American Dental Association (ADA) has designated February as *National Children’s Dental Health Month, to bring awareness to the importance of oral health. The ADA states, “developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.” In 2012, the ADA has a campaign, Rock Your Smile, as a way to share the message of good dental care and its benefits from dental professionals and health care providers to the public.

Many families without dental insurance find it challenging to pay for dental care out-of-pocket; but there are resources that can offer some assistance.  Free Dental Care Finders is one resource where families (and individuals) can “use this tool to locate free and low-cost dental care and health programs nationwide where you can get the treatment you need for very little or no money at all.”
